PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When you use the Grindr Properties, we collect Personal Information about you, the majority of which you choose to provide. We may collect data about your interactions, use, and experiences with our Properties and we may receive information about you from third parties. [LEARN MORE]
Personal Information You Are Required To Provide. When you set up an account, we require that you provide limited Personal Information such as email or phone number and date of birth to validate that you are an adult. In certain jurisdictions (including the United Kingdom (UK)), we may conduct age assurance to verify your age. A note on age assurance in the UK. For more information on age assurance on our platform, please see here: https://www.grindr.com/blog/age-assurance-in-the-uk
Personal Information You Have The Option To Provide. You have a choice about what Personal Information you provide as part of your public profile ("Grindr Profile"). Personal Information that you include in your Grindr Profile is referred to as your "Profile Information" and is shared with other users of the Grindr Services (the "Grindr Community"). For example, you may choose to share or not share location, HIV status, vaccination status, photos, and videos. Note, however, that choosing not to provide certain information may impact the functionality of certain Grindr Services. You also have a choice about what Personal information you provide when you send a message to other users using the Grindr Services (which could include content such as photos, location, audio, video, emojis, giphys, reactions, etc.). If you send messages, you will be providing the user who views your message (and Grindr) with your Personal Information. You may also optionally provide Personal Information to us for feedback and customer support services or when you agree to participate in surveys. Such data varies from survey to survey.
A note on "sensitive" Personal Information. In some jurisdictions and under some regulations, information that may reveal an individual's racial or ethnic origin, details on their health or sex life/sexual orientation, or precise geolocation, among other data, may be considered "sensitive" or "special category" Personal Information.
A note on location information. We may collect your precise location ("Location") from your device to determine your distance from other users ("Distance Information") and display your profile on the Grindr Properties. Sophisticated users who use the Grindr Services in an unauthorized manner, or other users who change their location while you remain in the same location, may use Distance Information to determine your exact location and may be able to determine your identity. You may choose to hide your Distance Information; however, if you continue to use the Grindr Services the Grindr Services will continue to sort and display your profile based on your relative distance from other users. Accordingly, even if you choose to hide your Distance Information, others may nevertheless be able to determine your Location. You may revoke this permission and disable the location services on your device on an iPhone by going to Settings> Privacy> Location Services> Grindr; on an Android device by going to Settings> Location> Grindr> Permissions> Location; and on Grindr Web by adjusting your browser settings.
Personal Information We Receive From Your Device When You Use The Grindr Properties. In general, we use your Personal Information to:
Provide you with the Services associated with your Grindr account.
Answer your inquiries and provide you with support.
Improve our Properties and support user safety within the Services (including by using machine learning(ML)/artificial intelligence(AI) (we use the term “AI” to include both artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies and automated decision-making).
Protect our interests as a company.
Enable you to enjoy and empower certain Service and Property features (including AI-powered features, AI training, and automated decision-making processes – click here for more information).
Allow third-party ad / marketing partners to use cookies and other technologies for the purposes of serving ads to free users of the Services.
Conduct surveys or obtain your voluntary feedback about our Properties.
Respond to legal requests from law enforcement agencies, regulators, and other third-parties to comply with "Legal Obligations" (as defined below).
We may anonymize or deidentify information so it is no longer considered Personal Information under applicable law. Where we deidentify information, we commit to maintaining and using the deidentified information in deidentified form and not attempt to reidentify it. We may use non-personal information for any purpose permitted by law. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information that has been anonymized or, to the extent permitted by law, deidentified.
AI FOR PERSONALIZATION AND CONNECTION
At Grindr, we use AI, including generative AI and machine learning, to help personalize your experience and support more authentic, meaningful connections. Generative AI may be used to analyze and summarize relevant information, such as past interactions or behavioral patterns, to help you reconnect with others more easily, or to better understand who you’re engaging with. Machine learning may be used to recognize patterns in how you and others use the app so we can offer more relevant recommendations, and help surface profiles you’re more likely to connect with. AI may also be used to enhance existing features and power new experiences within the Grindr Properties. These AI-powered features are integrated across the Grindr platform to enhance the quality, timing, and relevance of your interactions. We may refer to our AI-powered features and our use of AI as “gAI” (pronounced “gay I”).
To support these AI-powered features, we may use the following data about you and others in the Grindr Community to personalize your experience; provide recommendations, suggestions, and insights; and help enable meaningful connection: the Personal Information You Have The Option To Provide such as your tags, messages, age, and gender so we can show you people or show you to people with similar interests or reconnect you with people you’ve previously interacted with; Personal Information We Receive From Your Device When You Use The Grindr Properties such as user profiles you view or interact with to understand your preferences and tailor your experience accordingly; and Personal Information We Receive From Third Parties such as your location in order to show you people closest to you. Specifically for messages, we may use the content of messages to personalize and enhance your experience, including helping you reconnect with others, providing recommendations and insights, generating summaries, and supporting functionality designed to enable more meaningful interactions. You can view our Legal Bases section to understand our grounds for processing such information. You are in control of what information you choose to include in your profile or messages.
In your Privacy Settings you are able to manage your choices regarding the use of your Personal Information to provide AI-powered features to you or to other users, or to develop or train AI technology. Note that even if you opt out of the use of your Personal Information for the development and training of AI technology, your Personal Information may still be used to provide AI-powered features, unless you separately opt-out of those features.
Below you will find some examples of potential AI-powered features that could be available to you depending on your jurisdiction:
Reconnection reminders and conversation continuity: We may use AI to help users easily revisit and re-engage with profiles they have previously interacted with, including by summarizing past conversations. This strengthens continuity in user interactions, promotes re-engagement, and increases the likelihood of meaningful reconnections.
Behavior-based profile insights: We may use AI to deliver real-time behavioral indicators and credibility markers—such as responsiveness, typical online hours, and account longevity—directly on user profiles. These insights help users assess compatibility and interaction potential more efficiently. We may use AI to analyze engagement patterns and profile data (including potentially “Looking For” or “Position”) to tailor insights, enhancing decision-making and reducing friction in first contacts.
Context-aware chat prompts: We may use AI to support conversation flow with dynamic, context-sensitive chat suggestions. Drawing from users’ messaging history, we may be able to suggest authentic prompts and interaction ideas, adapting over time based on behavior within the app. This could facilitate more–and more engaging–chats, particularly during early or awkward stages of a conversation, and could improve communication quality across all users.
Compatibility-based recommendations: We may use AI to deliver an enhanced matching model that provides users with potentially compatible profiles based on behavior and engagement signals, among other criteria. These personalized options may help users focus their efforts on high-potential connections, increasing user satisfaction and reducing time spent browsing.
To power some of these features, we may use your Personal Information You Are Required To Provide; Personal Information We Receive From Your Device When You Use The Grindr Properties; Personal Information You Have The Option To Provide, including sensitive Personal Information; and Personal Information We Receive From Third Parties.
For the avoidance of doubt, we do not use HIV status, Last Tested Date, Testing Reminders, Health Practices, Poz and Sober Tags and Tribes, and vaccination status for AI-powered features or AI training.
While some of these AI-powered features may be available directly only to certain users, for example subscribers to Grindr’s premium services, other Grindr users may also benefit from AI-powered features through increased visibility and interaction opportunities with other users.

The latest version of the policy available at https://www.grindr.com/privacy-policy/ will govern our use of your Personal Information. Grindr may revise this policy from time to time. If Grindr determines, in its sole discretion, that the changes we make to this policy are material, we will notify you in advance (e.g., within the Services).PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND DATA RETENTION
Effective Date: The earlier of 2025-September -11 or user acknowledgment.
This section provides a more detailed overview of the specific types of Personal Information we collect and our data retention practices.
PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We start to collect Personal Information as soon as you start interacting with the Grindr Properties on the web, by downloading the app, liking us on social media, or contacting us directly. We may collect Personal Information directly from you, directly from your device, or from third parties [LEARN MORE]. We need to collect some Personal Information from you in order to provide you access to and operate our Properties; sometimes providing Personal Information is optional.
PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE
While the following provides examples of the Personal Information that Grindr collects, note that not all Grindr Properties collect all of the data listed below.
In order to use the Grindr Services, you are required to provide Personal Information (i.e., email or a third-party social log-in like Meta or Google, phone number, and date of birth) for account registration and authentication and/or verification purposes. If you utilize a third-party social log-in, the third party provides us with access to certain information that they have about you (e.g., display name and email address) for authentication and account creation purposes. In certain jurisdictions (including the UK), we may conduct age assurance to verify your age. We may require you to provide a video selfie or pair a video selfie with an official photo ID to confirm you are 18 or older. We may collect government-issued identification, postal address, signature, and phone number to assist with account authentication processes (e.g., password changes, email address updates, ban appeals, and profile deletions when a user no longer has access to their Grindr account or the email address used to create it) and we may also collect email address and a photo of yourself (i.e., a "selfie"), including to evaluate impersonation reports.
PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO PROVIDE
Profile Information. When you create a Grindr account, you choose to provide us Personal Information about yourself for your Grindr Profile. For example, you may voluntarily provide your Personal Information such as your photos, display name, content in your "About Me" section, tags you may wish to include in the "My Tags" section, stats (including your age, height, weight, body type, position, ethnicity, relationship status, "My Tribes"), expectations (e.g., "I'm Looking For", "Meet At", "Accepts NSFW Pics"), identity (including Gender and Pronouns), self-reported health information (including HIV status, Last Tested Date, and vaccination status - see below for more information), social links (including Instagram username, Spotify top songs, X handle, and Facebook username), and any other information that you choose to add to your profile on the Grindr Services (collectively "Profile Information"). As the Grindr Services are designed as an open social networking platform enabling users to connect and share information, when you use the Grindr Services, your Grindr Profile and Profile Information are public, meaning other users of the Grindr Services can see your Grindr Profile, Profile Information, and other Personal Information (including Personal Information that could be considered "sensitive" in some jurisdictions and contexts, such as your health information - see below for more information) posted by you. For example, other users can search for you, search for your profile characteristics, see if you've viewed their profile, or see you listed as being within their vicinity. Users of the Grindr Services may be able to determine your identity based on what you share in your Grindr Profile as well as in chats. Do not include information in your Grindr Profile that you want to keep private. For example, if you do not want your HIV status or vaccination status to be known, you should not include that information in your Grindr Profile. You should carefully consider what Personal Information to include in your Grindr Profile, and you can review and change that information at any time by accessing the "Edit Profile" section of the Services.
Note on "sensitive" Personal Information. In some jurisdictions and under some regulations, information that may reveal an individual's racial or ethnic origin or details on their health or sex life/sexual orientation, among other data, may be considered "sensitive" or "special category" Personal Information. You determine whether you provide such data within your profile. Such information may also be revealed to the Grindr Community and with users with whom you interact if you choose certain Tags, if you choose to disclose such information in your "About Me" section, in your posts as part of a “Right Now” session, or via private messages you send other users. You can review, change, or remove such information at any time by accessing the "Edit Profile" section of the Services. Grindr relies on your consent for the collection and processing of sensitive Personal Information, as indicated by your inclusion of this information in your Profile. [LEARN MORE]
Note on health information, including HIV Status, Last Tested Date, and vaccination status. To better support the community's wellbeing, and at the recommendation of HIV prevention and health experts and the Grindr Community, we give you the option of publishing certain self-reported health characteristics, such as your HIV status, Last Tested Date, whether you are using PrEP or DoxyPEP, and/or vaccination status, in your public Grindr profile. As mentioned above, such data may be considered "sensitive" in some jurisdictions and contexts. Grindr uses Last Tested Date to send you periodic reminders to get tested if you choose to opt in to receiving this reminder. If you choose to include this information in your profile, it will become public to other users of the Grindr Services. As a result, you should carefully consider whether you want to disclose your HIV status, Last Tested Date, and/or vaccination status. Please note that Grindr does not verify this health information. You can review, change, and/or remove your HIV status, Last Tested Date, and/or vaccination status information at any time by accessing the "Edit Profile" section of the Services.
Feedback/Support-Related Information. If you provide us feedback or contact Grindr customer support, we collect your name and email address and possibly other Personal Information (e.g., IP address), as well as any other content that you send to us in order to reply and address any issue. If you contact customer support, we also collect and retain certain technical diagnostic data, such as your phone model.
Social Features. The Grindr Services include features that permit interactions that you initiate between the Grindr Services and third-party websites or services, including third-party social networks (collectively "Social Features"). For example, you may include a link to your Instagram and/or Facebook accounts from within your Grindr Profile. If you choose to use Social Features on the Grindr Services, both Grindr and the third-party services that operate those Social Features may have access to certain Personal Information about you and your use of both the Grindr Services and theirs. The Personal Information collected and stored by third parties remains subject to those third parties' privacy practices, including whether the third parties continue to share Personal Information with us.
Mailing List-Related Information. If we collect your email address and you opt into our mailing list, we may send you Grindr news, Grindr Properties information and updates, and first- and third-party offers. You always have the option to unsubscribe through a link in the footer of these emails. We may still send you service-oriented emails related to your account.
Survey and Interview-Related Information. When you participate in a survey, you choose to provide us additional Personal Information through the survey, which may include sensitive Personal Information. If the survey is provided by a third-party service provider, the third party's privacy policy, which is available from within the survey experience, applies to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information. Similarly, from time-to-time, we ask users to help us improve our Properties by volunteering for interviews, including via video. We may use a third party to support these interviews.
Photos, Videos, and Audio. We may collect audio, electronic, visual, or similar information if you enable video or photo features in Grindr Services. If you upload a photo, video, create an Album, or send an audio message while using the Grindr Services, you will be required to permit the Grindr Services to access your camera, photo gallery, and/or microphone, in which case Grindr will have access to the photos and videos stored in your photo gallery. The Grindr Services also offers the ability to send recorded videos or to engage in live audio and video chats. After you start a chat with another Grindr user, you can send recorded videos or participate in a live audio or video call with that user.
Location and Distance Information. We may collect your precise location ("Location") from your device to determine your distance from other users ("Distance Information") and display your profile on the Grindr Properties. The Grindr Services are designed to allow users to share your Location and/or Distance Information. When enabled, Distance Information is public and indicates to other users of the Grindr Services the distance you are in feet or meters from them. Your Distance Information will be displayed in your profile in those users' search results should you elect to display your relative distance. Should you choose not to allow the Grindr Services to access your Location, certain features of the Grindr Services (such as displaying nearby user profiles or features that include Location Sharing) will not function properly. Note that Grindr Services users can use features such as "Explore", “Travel” or “Roam” to search for or connect with other users in a geographic location outside of their immediate location. Sophisticated users who use the Grindr Services in an unauthorized manner, or other users who change their location while you remain in the same location, may use Distance Information to determine your exact location and may be able to determine your identity. You may choose to hide your Distance Information; however, the Grindr Services will continue to sort and display your profile based on your relative distance from other users. Accordingly, even if you choose to hide your Distance Information, others may nevertheless be able to determine your Location. You may revoke this permission and disable the location services on your device on an iPhone by going to Settings> Privacy> Location Services> Grindr and on an Android device by going to Settings> Location> Grindr> Permissions> Location; and on Grindr Web by going to your browser settings. In some jurisdictions and under some regulations, precise location information may be considered "sensitive" or "special category" Personal Information.
Location Sharing in Chat. You can share your current Location with another user via a chat message through the Grindr Services. The Location you share is not updated once shared. You can revoke your consent to sharing this Location at any time by utilizing the "Unsend Location" button within the Services.
Messages. When you send a message to other users using the Grindr Services (which could include content such as photos, location, audio, video, emojis, giphys, reactions, etc.), we may collect Personal Information that includes the content of the message in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you send messages, you will be providing the user who views your message (and Grindr) with your Personal Information. Don't send messages or share content that you wouldn't want someone to save or share, as users may save content or copy it outside the Grindr Services. We store chat messages on our servers in accordance with our retention policy. Therefore, if you choose to delete your account, messages you sent to another user may still be available on that user's device. Do not share your Account Credentials through messages, or any other Personal Information that you don't want other users to know about you.
PERSONAL INFORMATION WE RECEIVE FROM YOUR DEVICE WHEN YOU USE THE GRINDR PROPERTIES
User Activity. We collect certain Personal Information that is generated through your use of the Grindr Properties. BEHAVIORAL ADVERTISING
Effective Date: The earlier of 2025-September -11 or user acknowledgment.
Behavioral Advertising On Websites (including Grindr Web). Our websites may allow for third-party behavioral advertising. This means that a third party may use technology (e.g., a cookie) to collect information about your use of our websites so that they can provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interests. For more information on third-party tracking technology, please visit Cookie and Other Technologies. Advertising may appear either on our website or on other websites not operated by Grindr. You can opt-out from some third-party behavioral advertising at the Digital Advertising Alliance in the US, the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada in Canada, or the European Digital Advertising Alliance in Europe. Please note that opting-out of behavioral advertising does not mean that you will not receive advertising while using the Grindr Properties. It will, however, exclude you from interest-based advertising conducted through participating networks, as provided by their policies and choice mechanisms.
Behavioral Advertising Within The Grindr Services. Before creating your Grindr account, you will be presented with a consent preference screen where you can control if your Personal Information can be used by our Ad / Marketing Partners. You can also access the Consent Preference Center from within the settings menu of the Grindr Services at any time. For users in the EEA/UK, Grindr participates in the IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework ("TCF") and complies with its specifications and policies. Grindr currently utilizes Ketch as our consent management platform ("CMP"). Ketch operates its CMP under the TCF with the CMP ID #340.
For users who would like to control their choices at the device level on the Grindr App, you can opt-out of behavioral targeting on iOS devices by (i) going into Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > toggle “Allow Apps to Request to Track” to the left OR toggle “Grindr” to the left or (ii) by visiting Apple's website for more information on App Tracking Transparency. On Android devices, you can opt-out by (i) opening the "Google Settings," clicking on "Ads" and enabling "Opt out of interest based ads"; or (ii) by visiting the European Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA). If you opt out via the device-level settings of an iOS device, our CMP may reflect these settings.
Please note that how we handle your consent preferences will depend on whether you are interacting with the Grindr Services or websites. For example, when logged in to the Grindr App, your consent preferences will be handled by our in-app CMP. If visiting www.grindr.com, your consent preferences may differ since these websites will recognize your device/browser independent of your Grindr account.
Behavioral Advertising on Third-Party Platforms. You will be presented with a consent preference screen where you can control if your Personal Information can be used by Grindr to perform advertising campaigns for the Grindr Services on third-party platforms (e.g., Meta, Snap, etc.). See "Behavioral Advertising Within The Grindr Services" section for further details on the CMP and opting out of behavioral targeting at the device level.
Opt-Out Preference Signals. Grindr will attempt to recognize and process opt-out preference signals in a seamless manner. Please see more details regarding opt-out preference signals in the “Your U.S. State Privacy Rights” section of this Policy.

COOKIES AND OTHER TECH
Effective Date: The earlier of 2025-September -11 or user acknowledgment.
"Cookies" are small text files placed on your device or browser when you visit a website or otherwise interact with an online service. Cookies are used to collect and store information that is sent back to our servers or those of third parties. We use cookies and similar technologies to conduct essential functions, collect statistical data, provide interest-based advertising, integrate with third-parties, and fulfill other legitimate purposes described below. You may visit www.allaboutcookies.org to learn more about cookies.
First-party and third-party cookies. Grindr websites utilize first-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are cookies placed on your device directly by us (e.g., to adapt our website to your browser's language preferences and to better understand your use of the Grindr Properties). Third-party cookies are placed on your device by our partners and service providers (e.g., to gather performance data or to enable you to log on using a third-party social media platform).
Session and persistent cookies. All cookies have an expiration date. There are session cookies and persistent cookies. We use session cookies for many reasons, including for security purposes and to learn more about your use of the Properties so we can continue to ensure the Properties are effective and efficient. We typically use persistent cookies to help expedite your use of the Properties and for performance evaluation purposes.
SDKs/APIs. Software development kits ("SDKs") are pieces of code included within apps that function like cookies and web beacons. Application Programming Interfaces ("APIs") are interfaces that allow our software to interact with other software. For example, we may use SDKs and APIs to assist in delivering ads to users, measure how users navigate our Properties, and support crash reporting. Grindr has implemented a number of controls, including checklists, audits, and security measures, to ensure SDKs and APIs are implemented securely.
Other tracking technologies besides cookies. Grindr also utilizes tracking technologies such as web beacons (also known as pixel tags or clear gifs) and tracking URLs for similar purposes as cookies. Web beacons are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognize when a person visits our Properties. Tracking URLs are custom-generated links that help us understand where the traffic to our web pages comes from.
Third-Party Tracking. Our advertisers and certain service providers also use their own cookies or other tracking technologies (such as SDKs) which may collect information about you within the Grindr Properties. We prohibit third-party ad / marketing partners from tracking or monitoring certain Profile Information (e.g., HIV status, Last Tested date, vaccination status, Tribe, etc.). They will, however, receive the advertising ID associated with your device and know that the ID was identified on Grindr.
HOW DOES GRINDR USE COOKIES?
As described in greater detail below, we may use cookies and other tracking technologies for the following purposes:
To collect statistical data on our users' interactions with the Grindr Properties;
To conduct essential functions, such as identifying authentic web traffic and blocking banned accounts / unauthorized access to the Properties;
To integrate with third-party social media platforms if you so choose;
To recognize your behaviors and activities over time across multiple websites or other platforms; and
To serve you with interest-based or targeted advertising on other websites.
We may link the information collected by cookies with other information we obtain from you in accordance with this Policy and may use the combined information in ways as outlined by this Policy. Similarly, the third parties who serve cookies within the Properties may link the data they obtain through their cookies within the Properties to other information they may have collected about you. Anytime you interact with or provide your Personal Information to a third-party site, we encourage you to consult the site's privacy policy.
HOW CAN YOU CONTROL COOKIES?
There are several options available for you to use in order for you to manage cookies and tracking technologies while using the Grindr Properties.

We provide you with these controls on the Grindr Services and Grindr's websites and your preferences on each platform may be maintained separately (with the exception of the Grindr Services).
General Opt-Out. Most web browsers accept cookies automatically. You may also be able to configure your browser settings to use the web-accessible Grindr Properties without some cookie functionality. You can delete cookies manually or set your browser to automatically delete cookies on a predetermined schedule.

Other Partners. We have several partners that do not fall into the Service Provider or Ad / Marketing Partner categories, including Social Media partners for authentication and/or account linking, and the provider of the Operating System you may be using to access the Grindr Services. In these cases, you choose to provide your information to these partners through your direct access to their products and services.
